Most of our clients come to us while they are already paying their gas and electricity bills without issue.

Our role is not to tell people to stop paying or avoid lawful charges. Our role is to explain what must legally be in place for an energy contract (including a deemed contract) to be enforceable, and to check whether the supplier has actually followed that process.

How the Process Really Works

In the UK, energy suppliers must follow specific statutory and regulatory steps for a contract or deemed contract to be valid and enforceable.

Until that process has been completed correctly, a supplier may issue bills, letters, and demands — but whether those charges are legally enforceable depends entirely on whether the required steps have been followed.

In practice, errors in onboarding, transfers, deemed contracts, and supplier changes are extremely common. This often leads to customers being billed under arrangements that have not been properly formed.

Step 1 – Reviewing Your Position

We start by reviewing your situation in full, including:

• How and when the account was created

• Whether there is a written contract or a deemed contract claim

• Any switches, moves, or supplier changes

• Bills, letters, and correspondence you have received

We explain:

• What makes an energy contract legally enforceable

• What steps suppliers must follow under Ofgem rules and legislation

• Where suppliers commonly make procedural or documentation errors

Step 2 – Evidence & Compliance Check

We then help you request and review the evidence the supplier must be able to produce, including:

• Proof of contract or deemed contract formation

• Statutory notices and onboarding documentation

• Tariff and liability records

• Confirmation of the “responsible person”

• Records from supplier takeovers or collapses

We assess whether what the supplier is relying on is:

• Legally binding

• Procedurally correct

• Accurately represented

Step 3 – Explaining Your Options

Once your position is clear, we explain the options available to you, which may include:

• Raising a formal dispute

• Challenging defective or missing contract evidence

• Responding to incorrect billing or debt correspondence

• Understanding when you can lawfully switch or end an agreement

We do not tell you what action to take — we explain what is possible so you can decide.

Step 4 – Supplier Response & Review

If a dispute is raised, suppliers will usually respond with:

• Billing explanations

• Debt collection correspondence

• References to deemed contracts or regulatory authority

We review each response and explain:

• Which communications require action

• Which do not

• Whether the supplier has now met the required legal standard

Step 5 – Clear Explanation of Enforceability

Following review, we explain one of two positions:

If the supplier has followed the correct process:

We tell you clearly and explain what that means for resolving the account.

If the supplier has not followed the correct process:

We explain why charges may not currently be enforceable, what that means in practical terms, and what options remain available.

Important Clarification – Your Supply

Disputing a contract or requesting evidence does not automatically affect your gas or electricity supply.

Your energy continues through the national infrastructure, and supply cannot be disconnected simply because a contract is being reviewed or disputed.

We make sure suppliers follow the required process before enforcement or pressure is applied — and we explain your position clearly at every stage.

If the supplier’s position becomes lawful and enforceable at any point, we will tell you immediately.

Step 1 – Reviewing Your Current Situation

We begin by reviewing your current energy contract or account setup, including:

• whether a written contract exists, or whether a deemed contract is being relied upon

• how the account was created and onboarded

• any switches, moves, or supplier changes

• bills, letters, and correspondence you have received

We explain:

• what makes an energy contract legally enforceable

• how suppliers must create and maintain contracts correctly

• what procedural and documentation steps should occur at each stage

Many suppliers fail to follow all required steps consistently. This is why we review each stage carefully, rather than assuming compliance.

Step 2 – Contract & Procedure Review

If you are currently in a contract, we review it to:

• check whether required procedures were followed

• identify administrative or procedural issues

• explain what options may exist for ending the contract

If errors exist, this may provide legitimate grounds to challenge or exit the contract earlier than expected.

Step 3 – Exploring Exit or Change Options

Some clients want the fastest route out of an existing contract.

Where appropriate, we explain options such as:

• contacting the supplier directly

• notifying them of an intention to move or switch

• requesting a cancellation or end date

Once a contract ends, we explain your position and help you understand:

• whether to choose a new supplier

• whether to wait before entering a new agreement

• what to look out for during the transition

Step 4 – After a Contract Ends

Once a contract has ended, one of two things usually happens:

If the supplier does not follow correct procedure:

• liability is not automatically established

• debt cannot be enforced until properly proven

• you are not required to enter a new contract

We explain the next steps clearly and calmly.

If the supplier attempts to establish a deemed contract properly:

• we explain what they must prove

• we explain what this means for you

• we guide you through your options, including switching again or ending the new agreement

Step 5 – Disputing a Deemed Contract

If a supplier claims a deemed contract exists, we help you:

• check whether the correct steps were followed

• review whether notices were issued correctly

• understand whether liability is legally established

• understand how to dispute an incorrect claim

A supplier cannot enforce a debt unless they can show the contract or deemed contract was properly created.

Where procedure has not been followed, enforcement cannot proceed until liability is proven.

Step 6 – Dealing with Debt Collection or Enforcement Contact

If you are contacted by debt collectors, we explain:

• what they can and cannot enforce

• when a response is required

• when correspondence carries no enforcement power

You are never left guessing what to do next.
